The Spengler family teams up with the original Ghostbusters, who have established a top-secret research facility to take ghost-busting to the next level, as they venture back to the legendary New York City firehouse where it all began. To defend their planet and prevent a second Ice Age, Ghostbusters old and new must band together after the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil power.
Synopsis
When a group of firefighters in New York rush into a burning hotel in 1904, they discover a room that is completely made of ice. Using an outdated speaker, one of the men plays back a recording of the scene.
In the present day, Phoebe travels in a seat at the side of the Ghostbuster car while the Spengler family and Gary Grooberson pursue an ice dragon, eventually zapping it. Their good friends Podcast and Domingo have returned to New York City to support Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stanz, the other two Ghostbusters. After a while, they manage to capture the ghost from Hell’s Kitchen and transform it into the Mayor—now Walter Peck, their longtime enemy. Walter threatens to put an end to the Ghostbusters permanently since he is upset over the harm done to his town. Phoebe, the youngest Spengler, is excluded from the team by Callie until she becomes eighteen.
Phoebe walks outside to play chess with Melody, the spirit of a girl who perished in a fire, in an attempt to get over her disappointment from being cut from the Ghostbusters. Ray and Podcast had individuals delivering all kinds of bizarre “cursed” artifacts to an antique store, where Podcast would check for strange activities. He finds several small puffs during a search, and they start to cause mayhem. Nadeem Razmaadi, a man who appears to be from upstairs, presents them with an ancient orb that he claims is cursed and has some writing in Arabic on the side that he got from his grandmother. Because copper alloys employed in Bronze Age supernatural rituals make the sphere a trap for supernatural creatures, Ray concludes that this is what it is.
Ray assesses the orb’s psychokinetic energy before it bursts, sending a ray of psychic energy across the village and eventually into the firehouse, where it destroys the nearly full compartment housing all of the ghosts of the past. Trevor finds some candy wrappers on the floor in the attic, but when he gets closer, a ghost that resembles a slimmer appears and starts to fly around the space.
Ray visits his own private paranormal research institute to conduct additional research on the orb. With Dr. Lars Pinfield’s assistance, they attempt but are unable, to extract energy from the orb. But one of the ecto-confinements is disrupted by the strength of the orbs, allowing one of the specters to escape and take refuge in Podcast equipment. When Lars, Trevor, and Lucy approach Nadeem, he discloses that his grandmother concealed the orb in a brass-lined chamber and kept it a secret from him. As he enters, Peter Venkman reveals that Nadeem possesses latent pyrokinetic abilities.
When Ray visits Dr. Hubert Wartzki, a research librarian in New York, she begins by telling Ray the tale of how the orb was made 4,000 years ago in Southwest Asia by a group of Sourcerers known as the “Firemasters.” The goal of the Firemasters was to apprehend Garraka, a phantom deity who planned to use his army of undead to conquer the entire globe. They would employ the ability to murder with pure dread, known as “Kusharit Umoti” or “The Death Chill.” Both Nadeem’s grandmother and he are descended from Firemasters by blood. In 1904, while the Manhattan Adventurers Society was performing a fictitious rite in which Garraka was supposed to freeze to death, one of the Firemasters even stopped Garraka from breaking free of the sphere. It was also disclosed that Garraka was susceptible to fire, and brass and that the fact that his horns were severed had imprisoned him inside the sphere.
Phoebe tries to stop the lion statue outside the library when it suddenly becomes possessed, but it ends up destroying even more of the town and she gets arrested. In the hopes that the Ghostbusters will not exist anymore, the group tries to stop the ghost from stealing the recording before Walter Peck takes advantage of Phoebe’s long-term affiliation with the group. Before running up to her room, Phoebe quarrels with Gary and her mother. After some time, Phoebe receives a visit from Gary and Callie, who explain that they are keeping her from going on missions because they want to keep her safe.
Sadly, Phoebe had already absconded with Melody to the research center. Using Winston’s extraction technology, she projects herself as a ghost for two minutes to experience what it is like to be a ghost and to establish a physical connection and interaction with Melody. Melody disclosed at that very time that she had been working covertly for Garraka, who had promised her a journey to the hereafter in exchange. Garraka uses Phoebe’s corpse to perform the ritual chant, which allows the demon ghost to reclaim all of the power in his horns. He moves them to his head and makes his exit, leaving snow and ice all over New York.
Upon realizing that the demon has already frozen every ghost in the research center, the remaining Ghostbusters conclude that it will do the same to every ghost in the compartment unit. To preserve their headquarters and the firehouse, they rally everyone together. Nadeem practices his abilities while donning the Firemaster Brass Armour that his grandmother has kept, right before Garraka shows up.
Unfortunately, Garraka surpasses the gang’s might and starts to freeze each member individually. Melody switches to assisting the gang after Garraka betrays her, and Phoebe uses Brass to electrify Ego Spengler’s proton pack. Melody reveals himself as the next Firemaster after assisting Nadeem in using his power. By transforming the compartment into a massive ghost trap, Ray, the other Ghostbusters, and Janine Melnitz, the former receptionist, also assist in defeating Garraka. This helps turn Garraka into dust, and when that happens, he is eventually caught in the compartment with the fire.
Before Melody departs this world to make amends with her family in the hereafter, she says one final goodbye to Phoebe. Even after the gang does a fantastic job defending New York City, Walter still would not give the Ghostbusters credit. However, the jeering crowd makes him change his mind, and he also decides not to push Phoebe out of the Ghostbusters. Trevor can drive the Ghostbuster automobile for the first time as Slimer and the other ghosts flee and everyone chases after them.
The mini puffs steal the truck as the credits start to roll and the truck driver gets out to buy Stay-puft marshmallows from a nearby vending machine.
