Summaries:

Moana must travel to the distant oceans of Oceania and into risky long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she has ever experienced after getting an unexpected call from her navigational ancestors.

Synopsis:

Three years after the events of the previous movie, Moana journeys to explore new islands in the hope of finding other people who share her connection to the water.

Moana’s ancestor Tautai Vasa gives her a vision one horrible day, telling her that people have become cut off from the ocean because of a storm god named Nalo who wants to rule over all mortals. Motufetu, a magical island, gets sunk into the sea below by Nalo. She continues by warning her that if she does not figure out how to raise the island again, it will become abandoned. Together with her pig Pua and Rooster Heihei, Moana puts together Loto, Moni, and Keke and sets out to find the Montufetu.

Since Montufetu and Nalo had a previous argument, Maui is looking for him himself, but Matangi (a Nalo enforcer) captures him. Maui thinks about asking Moana for extra help, but she decides against it in case he risks her life.

When Moana and her companions confront Kakamora, a bunch of pirates that resemble coconuts, they discover that Nalo’s sinking Motufetu has cut them off from their home.  They can approach Matangis’ lair thanks to Kotu’s help in paralyzing a giant clam. When Moana goes to locate Mantangi, she admits that she is not happy serving Nalo, so she helps Moana escape using a new technique, and she and Maui reconnect. Meanwhile, the rest of the group goes and finds Maui. The group is then sent to meet Nalo by Matangi.

Maui claims that the Nalos world is more deadly than the mortal realm.   After being attacked, the party finds themselves back on the sandy shore of an unknown island. The gang creates an escape plan to have Maui lift the island and have Moana touch it as it is the only way they can restore the power, even though Maui wants Moana to keep traveling. After the other members of the group fix the damaged raft, they set sail to vanquish Nalo. Moana learns of Nalo’s phobia of people touching the island and breaking the curse while Nalo fights them.

Moana is forced to sink herself and touch the bottom of Montufetu after Nalo eliminates Maui of his divine status, but she is murdered by Nalo’s strength. Maui steps in and successfully brings Moana back to life with the help of her ancestors. In the process, Maui regains his divine status and Moana receives a Wayfinders tattoo. Maui then reconnects the people with the ocean by using his abilities to lift Montufetu out of the water.

A festival is organized in honor of Moana when she returns to her home island. As the credits roll, Tamatoa arrives to join them in their quest for vengeance against Moana for what she did to him in the first movie, Just when Nalo is about to criticize Matangi for assisting the gang.
